What Next For Arsenal?
Can you believe Yahoo actually removed my original title:
So Is Arsenal Now Exposed As A Bully?
I meant that in the footballing sense. They beat lesser teams black and blue, but when they come up against quality sides or in battles they must win to succeed, they have come up short.
Before you accuse me of being anti-Arsenal, I’m not. They are a good side but the evidence must be clear now to all, the team still lacks the cutting edge that separates Champions from also-rans.
The excuse could be the injuries or suspensions that have so often befallen them, but every club suffers this fate from time to time, Arsenal do not possess enough strength in depth to overcome such problems.
As United and Chelsea, even Stoke have shown this season, as in the past, they do not have enough battlers in the team that can match sides who:
a) do not let them play their usual game and
b) have enough, greater or similar quality to match Arsenal.
Wenger may whine or deny it at times, but the records do not lie, Arsenal have again come up short when it matters the most.
Having said all this, I do not believe that Arsenal are totally out of the running to win the 2 remaining competitions they are in. With some luck, a good run of form and players standing up to the task, they still have a chance to taste success, although I won’t hasten to the betting shop just yet.
I think 5 seasons of rebuilding the squad should be enough. Come summer, Wenger and the board must sit down and decide the immediate future. Do they want to be financially sound and clear debts before making a sustained challenge for silverware? Or do they think investing or risking some funds to strengthen the squad, go for glory first and worry about the bottom-line later?
I think success breeds profits in the long run, and this is where they should go. Either way, they owe it to the legion of Gooners to tell them where they stand. Empty promises of the current squad being good enough to challenge for the title and the CL, only builds up false hopes which every season is crushed in cruel fashion, in the latter stages of competition.
Btw have you seen this wonderful solo goal by George Weah in his prime? If not, enjoy:

these are all excellent points, especially the bully part… but i gotta tell you I have my own problms with Liverpool to consider these days.. I meanyou think Arsenal are in a bit of a jam? look at us, we might not even be making it into the 4th pace and we are out of the CL in the group stages, group stages!!!!
ok this q didnt help me laugh at Arsenal’s problem as it should have haha

and that wasn’t "the goal of the century"? check what Liberia has done as a nation since he retired. only dropped down bout 120 ranking spots.
(that goal wouldn’t have happened against parma. they had buffon and cannavaro then.)
arsenal will be fine. there only 5 out. i never gave up hope when chelsea was 8 out with less games to go last year.

Well din’t United lose most of the games against the top 4 aka good footballing sides last season and YET won the league.
Leagues are won by beating the smaller team’s.Big team’s can go either way’s.
This season how many teams have beaten Fulham at Craven Cottage ?Not many but Arsenal have.
Where United got thrashed 3-0 ?
Arsenal beat Stoke with a full strength squad 2-0 at the emirates. If you are considering a side which played Couquelin as RB Sol and Sylvester as Cb’s with 3 youth players in the forward lineup that was matching Stoke 1-1 until Wenger decided to go all out in the 65 min as failure I don’t know what to comment.
Tell me how do you think 5 season’s of building a squad is good enough.Wenger was at fault for not renewing contract’s over the last 3 season’s where crucial member’s (Flamini ,Hleb) in the squad which he built left us at a very wrong time.
This season if you observe he has made many contract renewal’s of current player’s which will make them stick together for 2 to 3 season’s atleast.
At the end of the day Arsenal has defied time and again that they are challenging in most of the competition’s they play.
All we can do is compete and hope some share of luck goes our way interm’s of ref descion’s and injuries.Injuries have never been kind to us.
I still believe this side has what it takes to win as they showed time and again to come on top despite all the odd’s.
Winning trophies by living within your mean’s is the motive which Arsenal will always respect and is the right way a club should be run.
Arsenal are still facing a huge debt and it’s risky by buying player’s worth 20/30 million in this market.
I would rather see my club compete for titles every year instead of winning and then going down financially in a few year’s.
Success breed’s profit’s ? What does that suppose to mean?
Arsenal have been making profit’s over the last few year’s not just because they don’t spend but they still compete in competition’s.
